3 Reason to Use Undenatured Whey Protein

February 4, 2017

There are a lot of options out there when it comes to selecting a whey protein powder. I am not going to get into all the specifics in this article on the various whey proteins because it just becomes confusing to the reader and what to believe. I may write an article on this later but today I simply want to focus on why you may want to choose undenatured whey protein powder.

If you google "What is Undenatured Whey Protein" you will find about a billion articles out there. Confusing? You betcha. I decided to wade thru all the rhetoric and give you what I believe to be true regarding use of undernatured whey proteins.

Before I list the top 3 reasons, I want to suggest that consumers should look to use New Zealand Whey protein whenever possible. Yes, there are other suppliers of whey protein that are just as good in the world but they are hard to find so as a consumer, when using New Zealand Whey you will know that you are getting the best whey possible.

The New Zealand Whey

Choosing healthy, environmentally friendly dairy products are those that come from sources supporting the natural diet and lifestyle of dairy cows. Dairy protein including whey and milk protein concentrate from New Zealand where standards remain high.

Dairy cows on New Zealand farms are free to feed on spacious pasture in a temperate climate and the pristine environment that the country naturally provides. Research has shown that when cows are fed their natural diet of grasses in this way, it also keeps them healthier in comparison to grain-fed cows on feedlots. The farmers’ milking process is also more humane and natural where the cows are milked only according to season (rather than being artificially impregnated constantly to maximize profits).

What’s more, the dairy cows from New Zealand are not given any hormones or antibiotics like other industrialized counterparts to increase growth and milk production. Using undenatured whey and milk protein will protect the protein’s natural flavor, as well as its naturally occurring fragile, biologically active peptides.

The Skinny on Undernatured Whey

1) Fights key components of aging

Undenatured whey is of particular importance to older people, whose ability to make glutathione decreases with age. By their sixties and seventies, some elderly people have been shown to have glutathione levels 50 percent lower than adults in their twenties and thirties.

Why is glutathione important? Glutathione is capable of preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals. Take care of your cells and your body will take care of you.

Glutathione is the most important antioxidant available to your immune system, according to Dr. Mark Hyman in an article for the "Huffington Post." Your body makes glutathione, but many factors contribute to its depletion. Including foods that are precursors to glutathione in your diet is a better way to increase levels of the antioxidant than taking supplements. Hyman recommends undenatured whey protein for efficient glutathione production.

2) Muscle Metabolism

For athletes and individuals who perform resistance training, research shows that pre and/or post exercise ingestion of whey protein (BCAA amino acids) could see an increase in muscle protein synthesis which could be beneficial for a increase in size of skeletal muscle through a growth in size of its component cells. Resistance exercise followed by whey protein supplementation stimulates muscle protein synthesis and post-training whey supplementation could abate exercise-induced damage. see Peptides and proteins in whey and their benefits for human health

3) Adapting to Stress

A study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that whey protein rich in Alpha-Lactalbumin will help people with improved mental performance when confronted with stressful situations. Alpha-Lactalbumin can improve mood, enhance thinking abilities and increase the chances of restful sleep.

MYTH: All protein is the same
